The approval of chlorpyrifos, an insecticide, expires in January 2020. Chlorpyrifos has not been approved since 2009 in eight EU member states, including Germany, and products treated with it may not be placed on the market.
Although the EU Commission’s peer review process is still ongoing, Efsa was asked to comment on the substance. Concerns were expressed because the studies showed that there may be genotoxic and neurological effects during development, which may affect children’s health.
