New Mycotoxin Analysis for Herbal Drugs and Medical Cannabis Now Available
We are pleased to offer you an enhanced analytical method for the determination of mycotoxins.
As of now, testing for aflatoxin B1, B2, G1, and G2, as well as ochratoxin A, is available using HPLC-FLD under GMP conditions.
Mycotoxins in Herbal Raw Materials
Mycotoxins are naturally occurring metabolic products of moulds that are found ubiquitously. Among the most important representatives are aflatoxins, which are mainly produced by Aspergillus species and are considered highly toxic and, in some cases, carcinogenic — particularly aflatoxin B1.
Ochratoxin A is also one of the key mycotoxins. It is produced by various Aspergillus and Penicillium species and can occur during plant growth or as a result of improper drying and storage. Since these substances are highly stable, they cannot be fully removed even through processing.
Mycotoxins may therefore occur in a wide range of plant-based products, including foods, herbal drugs, and medical cannabis. Reliable analysis conforming to standards is therefore essential for quality control.
Methodological Advancement in Accordance with Ph. Eur.
Our new method complies with the requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur., chapters 2.8.18 and 2.8.22) and has been fully validated for cannabis flowers and extracts. Compared with the previous HPLC-MS analysis, the method is now based on HPLC-FLD (high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection).
Thanks to optimized sample preparation using combined affinity solid-phase-extractioon, the simultaneous determination of aflatoxins and ochratoxin A in a single run is now possible for the first time. At the same time, the required sample quantity has been reduced and the sensitivity of the method has been further improved.
Your Benefits at a Glance
