Legal Requirements for Cannabis Social Clubs (CSCs)
Quality control of consumer cannabis is essential to bringing flawless products to the market. It requires careful monitoring and testing at all stages of production - from seed to final product.
This is also one of the fundamental principles of the Consumer Cannabis Act (KCanG), which lists parameters to be examined as part of quality control. Where quality standards are not fully defined yet, the CSCs can refer to existing and recognized quality standards for medicinal cannabis and herbal medicines as a guide.
Cannabis for recreational use should be thoroughly controlled for several reasons.
• Ensuring consumer safety and avoiding health hazards, e. g. from pesticides, molds or heavy metals
• Checking the cannabinoid profile, e. g. for compliance
• Proof of due diligence
• Proof of absence of synthetic or semi-synthetic cannabinoids
Of course, quality-relevant parameters are also crucial when analyzing consumer cannabis.
• Terpenes (influencing the smell, taste and possibly also the cannabinoid effect)
• Loss on drying (water content indicator, volatile substance quality indicator, drying status, auxiliary parameters for evaluating cannabinoid content)
• Water activity (indicates the amount of water available in the product to prevent mold)
• Identity verification (the correct variety must be present and labeled accordingly)
Reliable cannabis analysis is a significant source of reassurance. It contributes to transparency, safety and quality assurance, providing a profound sense of security for the consumer and the entire economic sector.
