Performance of official controls in the field of organic production based on the Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 in conjunction with Regulation (EU) No 2017/625

Jul 20, 2020

The EU Control Regulation (EU) 2017/625, which will mainly apply from 14 December 2019, lays down the basic requirements for the structure and implementation of official food and feed controls within the EU in a binding manner.

According to Article 37 of Regulation (EU) No. 2017/625, the competent authorities designate official laboratories which shall analyse samples taken in the course of official controls and other official activities in the organic farming sector in accordance with the EC Organic Regulation.

In a decision of the Senator for Climate Protection, Environment, Mobility, Urban Development and Housing of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen dated 25 May 2020, QSI was designated as an official laboratory within the meaning of Article 37(1) of Regulation (EU) 2017/625 for sample analyses in the course of official controls and other official activities in the field of the EC Organic Regulation (Regulation (EC) No 834/2007).

The designation covers tests in the following areas of investigation:

– GMOs or products produced from or by GMOs contrary to Article 9 of Regulation (EC) No 889/2008
– Pesticides not included in Annex II of Regulation (EC) No 889/2008
– Determination of the authenticity of honey
– Determination of additives, contaminants and residues in coffee, tea, honey

This means that we will be able to examine samples from organic control bodies and other authorities in our laboratory throughout Germany and Europe.
