Evaluation of geographical and botanical origin of honey within the Honey-Profiling™ by means of NMR
As NMR and the interpretation of its data is evolving, we are happy to announce you the next step: The interpretation of the data will be classified in three different sections: Authenticity, Quality and Botanical/Geographical origin. To be as transparent as possible for you please find the decision tree in figure 1.
Figure 1: Overview of the new evaluation system by means of NMR with its possibilities and its corresponding sentences
For better understanding here are some hypothetical examples:
An addition of sugar or syrup would still clearly lead to an “adulterated” honey evaluation.
Quality issues like high HMF concentrations or fermentation indicated by high ethanol content would automatically result in an untypical evaluation. The consistency of the honey origin will be given in a percentage according to the test report of Bruker BioSpin GmbH. To receive this information it is crucial that the geographical and /or botanical origin of the honey is given by the customer to apply the right model of origin (figure 2 and 3). Otherwise no evaluation can be applied and given on the test report.
The evaluation of the honey origin is now within the scope of all NMR Honey-Profiling codes (listed below) without any extra cost!
New: QSI offers now a new code for the US market and other non EU sample (Honey-Profiling – USA/ non EU- (Code 40502)). The test report of this sample (figure 3) focusses on the evaluation of honey adulteration and the geographical and/or botanical origin.
To give you a better basis of decision here are some example test reports for the different NMR interpretation:
1. General Honey-Profiling (Code 40500):
