Cannabis MADE IN GERMANY – Cannabis Agency launches sale of medical cannabis in Germany

Since 07.07.2021, it is now possible for pharmacies to purchase medical cannabis in pharmaceutical quality via the portal of the Cannabis Agency. The contract to grow the plants was thereby awarded to three companies, which are then distributed via a distribution company commissioned by the BfArM.

Since the introduction of medical cannabis in Germany in 2017, the drug has only been imported and this will continue to take place alongside cultivation in the future. Currently, the German cultivation quantity commissioned as part of an EU-wide procurement process is 10,400 kg over 4 years and this will reach pharmacies at a price of €4.30 per gram, it said. The BfArM explicitly pointed out that the price for the pharmacies only served to cover personnel and material costs and did not generate any surpluses.
